Two female managers in KONGSBERG made it to the list of Norway's 50 most powerful up and coming tech women.

  • Ove Ronny Haraldsen
    Group Communication Manager

Both Tone-Merete Hansen from Kongsberg Digital and Ingelin Drøpping from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace are among the 50 women highlighted as the leading tech-women in Norwegian business.

Ingelin Drøpping is Executive Vice President, Space and Surveillance at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.

“It’s very good to be recognized as a contributor within technology based industry. Technology is an enabler for most things we are doing and even more so in our future. Norway cannot afford to recruit talent from only the 50% male human capital, so to be able to inspire and be role model for other girls feels really good,” says Ingelin Drøpping.

MARITIME SIMULATION
Tone-Merete Hansen holds the position as Senior Vice President for Maritime Simulation in Kongsberg Digital.

“When developing our simulation technology, we focus on contributing to enhanced competence both for operations onboard a vessel and at a shore-based operation center. In addition to enhancing competence, advanced simulation is vital as decision support in complex operations and studies,” comments Tone-Merete Hansen.

“In total the new simulation technology will contribute to increased security and a more sustainable maritime industry,” says Tone-Merete Hansen, adding that she is humbled by being named as one of the 50 leading tech women in Norway.

The Norwegian trade and employers’ association Abelia and the ODA network for women in tech are behind the award, which was announced on March 8th. Managing Director of Abelia, Håkon Hauglie, emphasizes the importance of gender balance in technology.

“Developing and applying new technologies is critical to meeting our greatest social challenges and for developing the business we are going to live by in Norway in the future. To succeed in such tasks, problem solvers of both genders are needed,” says Hauglie.

SPACE TECHNOLOGY IN KONGSBERG
KONGSBERG has long traditions in space and is one of the areas where KONGSBERG are able to utilize achievements in our missals division for civilian purposes.

Today KONGSBERG`s activity spans from designing, producing and delivering electronics onboard satellites, to communicate with the satellites and distribute the data that comes off them.

“For example, we deliver technology that allow the satellites to steer their solar panels so they can have optimal energy efficiency while in orbit.  Another example is that we communicate with the worlds satellites for weather data and get information off the satellites to distribute to the worlds methodological agencies,”says Ingelin Drøpping.

Norway is uniquely positioned to communicate with satellites in polar orbit. From the Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) location at Svalbard, KSAT are optimal positioned to “see” the satellites and keep track of them for the satellites owners.

“In fact, Svalbard is a unique part of a global network of ground stations we have built to serve satellite operators around the world,”says Ingelin Drøpping.
